Our project

A chalet, an intention.

Moonten is above all a place: slowly designed, built with local artisans, and imagined to welcome those who love the quiet side of the mountains.

The story

From a wish to a family project.

It was during our very first mountain stay, in summer, that the idea for this project was born. An unexpected experience for us, who were not used to it, shared with a couple of friends in La Giettaz, a place we discovered almost by chance.

From the first days, the charm worked. Sitting on the balcony of the chalet where we were staying, with our first daughter, facing an exceptional view, we realised how rich this setting was. Between the beauty of the landscapes, the activities, and the warm welcome of the locals, everything made us want to come back, then to project ourselves. We also saw the desire to pass on to our three children the simple joy of the mountains — walks, the discovery of precious nature, the respect it inspires, and the wild authenticity of these places — far from daily noise and screens, while imagining a chalet designed to welcome other families, small and large, seeking the same balance.

What at first seemed out of reach gradually became obvious: with determination and a lot of boldness, this dream could take shape. That is how the desire to create, in our turn, a place to live and share in La Giettaz was born.

The name

Why "Moonten"?

Moonten is much more than just a name: it tells a story dear to us. It is inspired by our dog, Moonten, who left us two years ago, just as the chalet project was taking shape.

His name, at once poetic and singular, refers to the moon and the number ten — two elements that evoke for us balance and serenity. Moonten had a husky side, a breed deeply tied to wide open spaces and the mountains, an environment he embodied perfectly.

Giving his name to this chalet came naturally, as an obvious choice, to prolong his presence beside us and inscribe his spirit in this place. Today, Moonten has become a refuge in his image: peaceful, authentic and open to nature, where everyone can reconnect with the essentials.

The place

Why La Giettaz?

La Giettaz is a Savoyard village of fewer than 500 inhabitants, perched at 1,100 m between Megève, the Col des Aravis and the Beaufortain. Far from concrete resorts, you'll find real village life, working farms and a quiet ski area linked to the Portes du Mont-Blanc.

We chose it for three simple reasons: an exceptional panorama of the Mont-Blanc range, direct access to the slopes, and above all an atmosphere the Aravis have preserved — that of an inhabited, generous and discreet mountain.

Building here is also a choice: working with local artisans, using local wood, and respecting the traditional Savoyard chalet silhouette while adding a contemporary touch.

Families

Designed for parents and their children

This chalet is not just 'kids friendly'. It was built around the idea that families who go on holiday with their children should never have to choose between their own comfort and an ideal environment for the little ones.

In the chalet, no compromise is needed between the well-earned rest of adults who work all year round and the need for energetic children to thrive fully. Every space has been designed so that parents and children can coexist at their own pace, never encroaching on each other.

Dedicated play areas, a cinema room, multiple terraces, swings, board games, curated reading... everything is here so that everyone, young and old, can find their happiness, even when the weather outside turns moody. You'll find all these activities in the dedicated section.

And if work needs to catch up with you, you can retreat to a dedicated room with all the necessary equipment and a good internet connection to make the moment as pleasant as possible — because working in the mountains remains a privilege.

Sport

A house at the heart of the action

We have established a resolutely sporty style through photos of great sporting events that adorn the walls. But Moonten's sporting spirit goes beyond decoration.

We are at the heart of an area that offers every imaginable sport, in every season. Alpine skiing, ski touring, mountain biking, paragliding, hiking, snowshoeing... The Aravis are an endless playground for thrill-seekers and Sunday sports enthusiasts alike.

And because sport starts right at the chalet door, everything has been provided so that equipment is never a hindrance. Loading and parking your bike is easy. Storing your skis and boots too. Moonten is a living base designed for those who don't separate the mountains from activity.

From the second stay onwards, and on request, electric bikes will be available directly on site. Above all, we want to build a relationship of trust: a first stay in a spirit of respect and without any hitch is, for us, the best way to access this additional service. We hope this approach will be understood and fully accepted by our dear guests.
